Morning after breakfast we have a half day of interacting with students at an English medium, school in Colombo. We visit the school, spend time doing activities with the students in the school and get to know of the various facets of life of a young person in Sri Lanka and learn about the challenges of the Sri Lankan education system.
After school visit transfer to host families (each customer family goes to one local family) or for an afternoon of visiting their home, going to the local market with the family, bringing and preparing ingredients and then an informally cooking their meal of the evening with the family.
Then in the evening, have dinner with your local, middle class family to get a glimpse into the lives of the Sri Lankans that are in fact a major part of Sri Lanka’s social, economic and cultural engine. During the dinner, we can try to make conversations about how life is for people in Sri Lanka and can share about our own family.
(A note about time with families: There is likely to be a language barrier for completely free flow of ideas and conversations and the travellers need to be aware of that. The idea is to experience seeing the lives of our counterparts in Sri Lanka. It is also important to note that each person will have different experience and one cannot be compared to the other. Experiences, unlike seeing monuments, are different for different people).
