The best thing about volunteering with Idex is that you can experience all of those amazing features that Himachal, India has to offer while impacting children’s life in a positive way. There are many success stories of special students that excel with the help of volunteer’s. This particular success story is about a child named Anshika that lives in a village called Lohna. Lohna is situated in the Kangra District of Himachal Pradesh, India. Anshika’s father is a labor worker and her mother is a house wife while her older brother study’s in 5th grade at Lohna’s Govt. School.
Molly a volunteer that decided to Idex and try something new made a big difference in Anshika’s life. Molly spent time teaching Anshika simple things like letters in the English alphabet and proper things to say such as; sorry, thanks and your welcome. She blossomed into a wonderful student with the help of Molly and went to school every day doing exactly what was asked of her. With all of Anshika’s improvements her family was so happy and thankful for all that the Idex volunteer has done for their daughter.
The true inspiration comes from all that this amazing child had to overcome throughout her life. Anshika started to come to Lohna DCC when she was 2 years old and at that time she would not sit with any of the kids because she was so afraid. She would continually cry during class andwould go sit down in a corner by herself, while not participating in the class work at all. The only person she wanted was her mother. About this time is when Molly the volunteer for Idex came into the picture and that’s when everything changed for Anshika.
Volunteering in general is something that is very rewarding especially when you are helping children learn a language that they might not have had the opportunity to learn without you. With the new teaching techniques offered by Idex and the fun inventive way they teach children to learn English it is a win, win situation for everyone involved. Be the change in the world that you want to see by volunteering your time to children who are in need of something new and fun.
